Prosegue l'avventura nel progressive rock italiano contemporaneo!

Gran Turismo Veloce, gia  il nome è un richiamo al fascino della musica Prog. GTV, l’acronimo è
inevitabilmente paragonabile a tanti altri usati da band storiche italiane degli anni ’70, in primis PFM, ma
anche RRR (Raccomandata Ricevuta Ritorno), RAM (Reale Accademia Di Musica) e moltissime altre. Ma i GTV sono di ben
altra pasta, anzi di altro “pesce”, visto lo sgombro che si aggira nell’artwork di cui il cd è il
sopra della lattina da strappare.
Il quartetto si forma a Grosseto nel 2008 con l’intento di unire
l’essenza del Prog anni ’70 a delle sonorità più moderne come il Metal e l’elettronica, senza
disdegnare puntate verso il Jazz. Alle spalle un EP del 2009 dal titolo “In Un Solo Brivido”, poi numerose
partecipazioni a concorsi e festival, fra i quali spiccano “Alternativersion” ed il festival internazionale
“Emergenza”, questi ed altri espletati con successo di pubblico e critica. Ma è grazie alla web radio di
Prato “Radiogas” che i GTV vengono notati da Samuele Santanna, leader dei Raven Sad, ottima band di Prog
italiano, anche lei in scuderia con la Lizard Records. Una volta segnalati a Loris Furlan, direttore della casa, vengono
reclutati nelle fila e proprio nel marzo del 2011 viene edito il debutto discografico dal titolo “Di Carne, Di
Anima”.

GRAN TURISMO VELOCE formed in 2008 in Grosseto, Tuscany. The band's name is a direct
homage to the famous Italian sportscar whose popularity spread throughout Europe in the 1970s, and the fact that in
those years Italian progressive rock was doing the same. The band takes their influence from those 1970s prog bands and
blends it with modern electronic, jazzy rock, and even some metal mood. The released their first EP In un solo brivido
and were playing their songs across Italy.

Over the next couple of years the band won awards at music
competitions and wowed audiences at Alternativersion, the XIV Festival in Savona, Emergenza contest, and Musicamp near
Milan. While working on their first full length album Di Carne, di Anima they caught the attention of Samuele Santanna,
frontman of RAVEN SAD. Soon the band was working with Loris Furlan of Lizard Records and their debut was released in the
Spring of 2011.

An infectious and exciting pollination of classic RPI and modern attitudes, GRAN TURISMO
VELOCE is poised to make a huge splash with a wide variety of progressive rock tastes.

Il disco è suddiviso in nove tracce per una durata di quarantasei minuti. Sotto una curata attenzione per la
formula canzone, inizia “Sorgente Sonora” un mix fra semplicità e ricerca, dove il Metal fa capolino
intersecandosi addirittura con una fisarmonica! Le tastiere di Claudio Filippeschi  sono presenti in equilibrio nella
stesura armonica, mentre il suo approccio vocale richiama in cadenza quello dei siciliani Fiaba.
La personalità
dei GTV fuoriesce in “Misera Venere”, un pezzo liricamente studiato al limite del recitato, mentre le
tastiere sgocciolano in stile Orme semplici scale che fanno da trampolino di lancio a cambi strumentali. Buono
l’apporto della chitarra da parte di Massimo Dolce. Il dosaggio cantautoriale è perfettamente equilibrato
nell’insieme con la vena Progressiva, per un risultato gradevole e personale.
“Quantocamia”
diffonde musica per la mente, la ritmica è ben oliata fra Flavio Timpanaro (basso) e Stefano Magini (batteria), uno
strumentale in classico stile Prog, dove l’umore cresce e diminuisce sopra le tastiere che guidano il gioco.
Spettacolare l’ingresso della chitarra, dove tutto sembra apparentemente semplice, ma qui c’è la
sorpresa, i GTV cambiano nuovamente binario e stile, rivoltando il brano come un calzino.
Ancora mix fra anni
’70 ed Elettronica con “L’Artista” e di schiaffo si intravedono barlumi di Porcupine Tree,
specie nell’uso della chitarra oltre che nei loop programmati. E’ difficilissimo trovare
l’equilibrio fra buone melodie e la ricerca sonora, generalmente le due cose non vanno a braccetto e chi segue il
genere sa benissimo cosa intendo dire, tuttavia i GTV riescono nell’intento e catturano a mio avviso
l’attenzione di un pubblico molto vasto.
Ce n’è per tutti i gusti, impeti sonori come ne
”L’estremo Viaggiatore”, oppure ricercatezza strumentale nella ripresa di “Misera
Venere”. Ma come in tutte le belle cose, dulcis in fundo con “L’Indice E L’Occhio”, nove
minuti in cui quanto descritto è sunto con semplicità.
Un debutto notevole, una band da tenere
sott’occhio e non posso che fare i complimenti anche a Santanna per la giusta intuizione. Da avere senza indugi.

"Anec Retrorsum" is a short experimental intro then "Sorgente Sonora" comes in with piano only
but it kicks in quickly with vocals to follow as it settles some. Great sound 1 1/2 minutes in with those powerful
vocals. Riffs and a heavy sound 3 1/2 minutes in. "Misera Venere" opens with organ and a beat as the guitar echoes.
Vocals follow then lots of piano takes over before the sound turns heavier after 2 1/2 minutes. It settles with vocals a
minute later. The guitar rips it up late to end it. "Quantocamia" opens with some instrumental bombast. I really like
when the drums come to the fore around 2 1/2 minutes. It then settles right down with piano. It turns dreamy before 4
1/2 minutes then kicks in again after 5 minutes.

"L'artista" is fairly laid back with vocals. It reminds me
of BAUER actually. "L'estremo Viaggiatore" kicks in right away but then settles back and the vocals join in. Contrasts
continue. On "La Paura" he sings in a relaxed manner while the cool sounding music continues. Samples 3 minutes in.
"Misera Venere (Reprise)" sounds really good especially after 2 minutes when we get what sounds like mellotron and
flute. "L'indice E L'occhio" opens with piano as vocals, synths and drums follow. An orchestral vibe joins in as well.
The music stops after 4 1/2 minutes and spoken words take over. Silence from about 5 minutes to seven minutes then the
music returns.

I like this record a lot and like everyone else so far I too give it 4 stars.
